So, I used to follow the SPL Rangers in the mid-late 2000's. It just got harder to follow them when I could never watch their games in America and I moved on. But anyway, now that ESPN regularly airs Premier League games and I can much more easily follow a team, I want to follow one of them. I'm pretty much neutral, so if anyone wants to sway me to their side or away from anther side... I'm all ears.

Rangers weren't paying their taxes. Or specifically Craig Whyte the owner wasn't. Either way Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs didn't look too kindly on this and after going into administration and failing to bring in a new financial consortium to pull the club out of debt (They were eventually overtaken by the Sevco group), Rangers were promptly placed into liquidation.
The league penalty for this was relegation to the bottom tier of Scottish football, so just as Livingston found out a few years prior, you don't pay your taxes, you don't play Premier League football.
