Funeral was given to me as a gift in 2006 and I thought it was ok, even liked it to an extent. But then I started a new job where we shuffled music through an office-wide system and I heard many of the songs pretty frequently, mixed in with other stuff. They just sounded soooooooo whiny every time they came on, it made me want to blow my brains out. I didn't bother with
Neon Bible since I wasn't interested in the band, but then
The Suburbs caught my attention when I learned it was written about the particular suburb of Houston that I used to live in, and spent the second half of my teens in. And to my surprise, great album and not nearly as whiny as
Funeral.

I've since downloaded and listened to
Neon Bible but only once or twice, hasn't quite grabbed me yet but I also didn't find it painful.
