Such a good movie, coming from someone who has never seen or read anything having to do with Lord of the Rings, and now I want to go back and watch all of the films. Peter Jackson is very passionate about the movie, and that always makes for a great movie so major props to him. Also the 48fps picture looks fantastic and works flawlessly with the scenery (Props to New Zealand as well) so I don't get why this film was treated to widespread bitching about the picture.
I found the 48fps a bit distracting at first, which sort of wore off as the move went on (guess I got used to it). I thought the film went for far too long - LOTR worked because it was three big books made into three big films, but The Hobbit is going to be one normal book made into three big films... so naturally I thought Peter Jackson had to stretch the film out for longer than it should have gone, meaning there were many superfluous scenes... it was okay but disappointing.
