The Chemical Brothers wrote the score and performed the music for the 2011 spy thriller Hanna. Out of the 20 tracks, only three or four are really outstanding. Most of the tracks sound like Tom and Ed aimlessly noodling about in a studio at 2 a.m. in the morning.

You have give a good listening to the soundtrack to separate the brief pieces of incidental music which have no purpose beyond the context of the film, from superlative tracks that hold their own as all purpose stand-alone songs.

Hanna is one of my guilty pleasures. It's an art house film with the story board that reads like a graphic novel. Hanna features two strong female leads: Cate Blanchett as a ruthless intelligence operative who is pitted against Saoirse Ronan as Hanna, a 16 year old wild child who was raised in the snowy wilds of arctic Finland and trained by father to be the perfect assassin.

One track the Chemical Brothers soundtrack really nails the theme of the movie... Hanna's Theme (Vocal Version) is a perfect fit for this moody and somber tale of international intrigue. I love the Chem Brother's use a glockenspiel on the song intro, even if it was a synthesizer cleverly mimicking the sound of a glockenspiel.
