Yes it is that simple, the apostle Paul said the antichrist will deny the simplicity that is in christ, there can't be love without forgiveness and you can't hate with it. So forgiveness is in my eyes the most important thing we can practice, it puts the body and spirit at ease. What does the spirit within you tell you, love feels good and hate feels bad. Makes life pretty simple.
To what face said, I believe everyone is capable of love, but you have to choose to love, it is a conscious decision every one has to make everyday, to love or to stay mad
Reguarding gay marriage I believe you can be gay and still love your neighbor as yourself. And that is all Jesus said we had to do.
