Substance, flow or even musical talent.
They like the hype, the idea of the aforementioned artists.
Most Rick Ross/Drake fans are younger teens trying to connect with the larger in life personas and getting swept up in the waves of euphoria surrounding them as 'artists'
If Kendrick wishes to take that path, power to him. I support him.
As average as he was, Lupe Fiasco once spoke about dumbing down his product to appeal to the larger demographic.
That is the process that Kendrick is in. That is why GKMC is not Section 8.1
If he chooses this path, there won't be a Section 8.1
However, as a hip-hop release aimed at the mainstream, it's still really good.

I think it's odd that you'd want him to take the path that much lamer artists have taken, but I can understand hoping he'll find a larger audience being at least having a little more depth and talent than the other rapper.
PS I don't see Kendrick being that much better than Lupe. Fiasco was a solid rapper, he just had a lot more pop orientation than is considered OK now. Kendrick is surely less poppy, but I wouldn't say his rap skills far surpass Fiasco is they do at all.
