^ No problem with that; the answer is "obviously not."
To me there`s nothing particularly pretentious about analyzing what you say. Babies express how they truly feel, screaming to reject discipline, crying when they`re hungry or scared. But then we grow up, we moderate our outbursts; we become more aware of the people around us and, usually, with that awareness comes empathy and consideration.
Recently an aquaintance of mine told me tearfully that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She didn`t look too good, but she told me that she was trying to be positive - that some people conquer cancer just by thinking positive thoughts. Well, after my initial shock, what I thought was, "You look like you`re dying. You are beyond the help of positive thoughts. Thank God it`s happening to you, not me." Not very worthy thoughts, but I`ll admit that that`s how I truly felt. Didn`t say any of it though, because what I truly feel is not always the most important issue.
Moderating what we say for fear of disagreement is perhaps less honorable, but it happens, often for the sake of peaceful co-existence.
So I guess I`m saying that as a social animal, I`m forever monitoring what I say for whatever of the reasons above. What you call pretentious, I would call mature.

All valid points but I put my response in the "what is the future of human evolution" thread. Closest fitting thread format I was willing to spend time looking for.
