I'm not claiming you are ignorant to all things American, Goofle, I know from previous posts this isn't the case. However I think a lot of Brits are and are happy to state that we do everything, especially TV and music, better and likewise, a lot of Americans are the same way.

The way I see it is that it's all down to personal taste, yes, but also what you are exposing yourself to. Brits often use the best British shows as examples and the worst American shows in comparison and vice-versa. It's easy to believe that all British shows are Life On Mars, Spaced etc and all American shows are Married With Children, Will & Grace and Stacked but this just isn't the case.

I would say that most of my favourite shows are British but then again we didn't make Seinfeld, Curb, Arrested Development, Six Feet Under and The West Wing and I personally adore all of these.

For me the way we do TV, for example the way we produce, air and actually give shows a good chance of surviving and existing to their conclusion is far superior to the cut-throat reality of how American television networks demand instant ratings, success and profits and will cut their losses at the drop of a hat rather than invest in a variety of different programming to the extent we tend to do here. America still produces some great TV though and the American sense of humour that we love to criticise certainly does exist in a lot of the shows produced but really is not that easily definable. Just like it would be easy to claim that the British sense of humour is exemplified by Last of the Summer bastard Wine but if that were the case, I would be a very unhappy man.
