I'm actually sort of with the Troll on this one. I mean, definitely do use the cloud, it's a fantastic idea. But don't ever trust it fully. Trolly asked "how much will this cost?" and I'm not sure what he meant but that question is exactly what you need to consider when depending on the cloud. The fact is, the cloud is always running on money somewhere (servers that need upkeep, etc.) even though we don't directly pay for it individually or ever see any cost. So if/when its supporting money goes away, the cloud dissipates and your files go away with it.

Definitely do invest in an external hard drive. You can get 1 TB for less than $100 and if you only need a few GBs then it's super-cheap.
