Brilliant timeline, for a simple rundown it covers the bases but its a bit one dimensional. The numbers are more drastic than this. The IFPI report (international agency that monitors digital downloads yearly) has estimated that 98% of over 40 billion downloads a year are unpaid for.
The problem is because the foundation of the music industry was rooted in this idea of accessibility, something file sharing blew right open. iTunes, subscription services and the like are just a band aid on a leak. To really fix it, the music industry needs to be changed right down to its foundation.
Which is what makes this era, in musical history, so exciting I think.
