was thinking the other day that Jazz is a style I have never fully dove into. I neglected it for a long time... I like jazzy style playing in bands like NoMeansNo, Victims Family, Naked City and others... but never gave Jazz as a style its own chance.
So I am getting myself into the style, so far have no recommendations from anyone.. just using Rate Your Music as a guide and taking in into my own hands.
I got this album, "The Shape of Jazz to Come" by Ornette Coleman, as well as some Miles Davis and some Paul Chambers (saw it on the bio for Rob Wright of NoMeansNo, saying he is one of his inspirations to pick up a bass, so had to check it out at least).
A little overwhelming of a style to just dive right into the deep end with, but whatever... I have done it with other styles as well.. usually goes the same way, get into a style, wanna check out more, and it leads to an addictive road of discovery.
Knowing nothing of jazz, or what goes into it... it is different than say rock, punk, metal and those styles.... but I am liking it so far. At least I can "feel" it.
