Okay, so I just found out that my personal files and records from the high school that I went to were released to the Internet, along with a few hundred other files that belong to other students, past and present. Apparently it was due to a security breach or something and their system was compromised.
I finished school 4 years ago, but they keep records on file for 5 or 6 years after you graduate, in case you need transcripts for post secondary school. Fine. Whatever. What bothers me is that they failed to secure the files on their system, and each folder contains information like your full name, the last address you lived at while a student there, phone numbers, health information, and worst of all, your Social Insurance Number (like an SSN) and/or an actual SSN if you're also an American citizen, like me.
I just got a letter about this in the mail today from the school and the school district, who both stated that they found out about this only about a month ago when a student informed them that they found their record online somewhere. Apparently they managed to fix the problem two weeks ago, and then they took another ****ing two weeks to notify people. WHAT THE ****.
So now I know that my extremely personal information like my SIN and SSN numbers and my full name have been floating out in cyberspace for god knows how long due to somebody's absolute negligence. ****ing hell.
