I know OF Soundgarden, though I haven't heard any of their stuff. Same with SAHB and Korn (unless you count the South Park appearance!), Metallica I can take or leave, usually the latter, and Creedence, well, they're just quality with a capital Q, an essential part of rock history. And I have a really soft spot for "An octopus's garden" --- it's just so gloriously silly!
"I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopus's garden, in the shade!
OK then here's my next list. Not much in the way of indie bands, but this is (mostly) stuff I like (see the asterisk).
1. I fought the law --- Nanci Griffith --- Blue roses from the moons
2. Carrie Ann --- Styx --- Edge of the century
3. Never knew I was losing you --- Westlife* --- Turdaround, sorry Turnaround!

4. Sphinx --- Eloy --- Chronicles
5. Spectre at the feast --- Arena --- Contagion
6. So pretty (Holiday romance) --- Paul Harrington --- What I'd say
7. Broken heart (Thirteen valleys) --- Big Country --- Through a big country
8. Pure hatred --- Tank --- Power of the hunter
9. Life's but a dream --- Lake of Tears --- Headstones
10. What about me --- Ten --- Far beyond the world
* I defend the inclusion of this with the plea that I only downloaded Westlife's discography for my special on boybands. Really. I have Boyz II Men, Nsync and Boyzone in there too, but it's all in the interests of research. Honestly.
No, really.
I've marked the Ten song as my favourite, as I love this underappreciated band, though Arena and Big Country were close runners-up.
