Well I think he does have a good point. And life isnt one or the other. People have to realize important matters such as health/family/providing are serious matters, but once the basic needs are taken care of we are essentially here to enjoy ourselves and have fun as much as people seem to forget that.
Tattooing is just one way of demonstrating to yourself or the world that you are here to have fun, and not simply become a walking zombie going to work and repeating that cycle forever. Now many people accomplish the same thing in other ways than tattoos. There is probably an infinite number of ways one can put excitement fun and meaning in their life (most will make it easier to get a job). You are not defined by what your job is but by the person you are and the things you have done for others.
