Nice review there Milano, I know this album like the back of my hand and played the original vinyl album to death back in the 1980s. I agree the A-side is a stunner and the B-side not as tight, the reason for that "My Other Voice" is the weak link there. But Beat the Clock and No.1 in Heaven were the two big hit singles from the album and are great tracks. What's so unique about this album, is that the band had several albums under their belts of a different style, not many bands can do a creative facelift as the Sparks did here.
Interesting that you hold the debut in high-esteem, I would hardly call it a good album but it is interesting, the nearest comparison is probably the very early Alice Cooper releases, which are mishy-mashy as well but have some interesting stuff hidden away. As far as I'm concerned Russell Mael had one of the best falsetto's in the history of rock.
