Here's why:
- Monotonous/repetitive song structures (which is found in most JAMC songs).
- Annoying, typical 80s-style production.
- Simplistic and uninspiring lyrics.

I find Darklands more enjoyable than Psychocandy. Uninspiring lyrics? Listen to 'April Skies' and tell me that song is uninspiring. Darklands may not be that original but when you have songs as heartfelt as these it doesn't really matter much. It's an album that divides opinion I guess but it's an album that I adore.

If they used up all their ideas on their debut then why did they change direction for their second and let their melodic, bittersweet songs shine through instead of cloaking them in noise? Because they didn't want to pull the same trick twice. Their first two albums are probably the only two that live up to the band's legacy. Automatic and Honey's Dead were good albums but pale in comparison to their first two. Stoned & Dethroned and Munki were signs that they had run out of ideas.
