We always just called it a filter here in Canada.
The 'roach' is the butt of the J so long as there's still some smokeable within (tear it up first, don't smoke the filter).
Speaking of rolling or piping roaches I knew a guy years ago who used something similar to Russian stacking dolls to store his
generational roaches. 3 levels of rez. If I remember correctly he said it took months if not the better part of a year to get enough roaches to roll a 3rd gen roach J.
I'm equal parts disgusted and curious.
