That's part of what the Gorguts album is going for. It is not something that most can fully grasp on the first go and demands repeat listens to really appreciate. First time hearing it, it is weirdo and chaotic, all over the place.. which is something in it's favor. It is basically like Captain Beefheart going towards Death metal. It is more of a musicians album I think, casual listeners won't get it, but those with an understanding of theory would have a better chance with it.

It sticks out like a sore thumb in Gorguts discography, it is challenging and it is at times over the top technically, but it is experimental and interesting.

I can see how it divides listeners though, seems to be no middle ground, you either love it or hate it with no in between.

But I do not think it can be judged on techincal aspect alone for why it is unlistenable.. especially in the context of the band Obscura or Technical Death metal at all. Virtually all TDM is just wankery. Look at say The Faceless, who I think are dreadful and cliche and predictable in all senses. That is techincal wankery for the sake of being techincal, but without being interesting. Obscura (album) on the other hand is technical, but it has character behind it unlike the majority of Techincal DM bands out there.
