I'd recommend you scour the used bookstores in your area for Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg. It was written in 1978 but has been out of print for awhile. It blends hardboiled detective fiction with supernatural horror but in a way that is very much like our own and goes unnoticed by everyone. Definitely worth your time, hopefully its along the lines of something you're looking for.

OH! You might also want to check out Nightwatch by Sergei Lukyanenko. It's Russian so if you're not a fan of Russian literature (wouldn't blame you if you weren't) then it's probably not for you, but it really does well with blending science fiction with supernatural elements like vampires and other creatures and an agency that polices them, as well as the monster agency that polices humans.
