I thought he'd be reading this, but ok...SoundGR's, this is directed at you. This is going to be an unpopular music opinion, but the first three Eagles records were classic. What's often over-looked is that the Eagles knew how to lay-down a dirty distorted guitar lick before Joe Walsh arrived. Leadon and Frey were fine understated guitar player and when they added Don Felder for "On the Boarder", they added a nasty slide player as well. To top it off, they had great 4-part harmonies, in the same league as the Beach Boys and CSNY, (though admittedly not as good). So they had a nice guitar dominated sound with first class harmonies, with nice touches of banjo and pedal steel here and there, countrified the rock music, unlike the Flying Burrito Bros, which to my ears is country music. I'd rank the 1st three 1)Desperado, 2)S/T, 3) On the Boarder.
