Free never reached the heights of popularity that the big three (Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple) did here in the UK. In terms of popularity they were the next level down along with the likes of Humble Pie.
Bad Company were a much bigger selling band here in the 70`s than Free ever were, but I think today more people will have far more nostalgia for Free than they would for Bad Company.
