Neil Young - Harvest/After The Gold Rush - personally I prefer
Harvest Moon over its prequel, and
Ragged Glory is a really underrated proto-grunge album, haven't heard
Goldrush
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced leh nerd skin nerd
The Allman Brothers Band - Eat A Peach/Brothers and Sisters
only heard comps of both bands, not a particularly favourite genre (Southern Rock, that is) - I prefer ZZ Top
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood/Couldn't Stand The Weather
Texas Flood is great. Haven't heard
Weather
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Only heard
In Rock but if it's along the same lines, it should be terif.
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
has a really samey sound over the entire album, great if you're in the mood
The Who - Who's Next
the best of their "arena rock" phase, but if you want a superlative Who, check out
Sell Out!
Tom Petty - Damn The Torpedoes
pretty ok to above average Byrds-ish variant
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
haven't heard this yet, but you might like
Thick as a Brick better but there's only two long songs there, though
Boston - Boston
no idea
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
considered their best, but I prefer
Summer Days (And Summer Nights) and
Today over this, also
Carl & The Passions' So Tough (I don't recommend this, though, it's an acquired taste, only one other person said it's good - Elton John)
BB King - I need to check my collection and get back to you
Jeff Beck -
Truth, Beckola (Rod Stewart sings on both, though) and
Blow by Blow are all essentials. Avoid
Flash - he disowned it saying it's a session band jam thing.
Elvis Costello - (Spike/This Year's Model) - you're better off with
Armed Forces or
Imperial Bedroom my personal fave is
King of America but you might only like it if you're into Americana
Steely Dan - Aja
Great stuff.
