I can sympathize with what you're saying, to an extent... but I think what Vanilla is trying to say is that there are times when certain posts are better off deleted so that they don't incite more people into perpetuating the behavior or posting responses that may fall in the same category as those that are gotten rid of or infracted for.
When a mod deletes a post, it's usually because it goes against basic policy. While it does deprive other members of that curiosity being met, it's also serving a purpose that is more valid than pleasing curiosity, 9 times out of 10.
People may not enjoy that fact, but it's still a fact, and the mods don't expect everyone to see it that way... but we do the job regardless. But, as a caveat to that, we definitely enjoy letting the community in on goofs and situations involving spammers or noobs that have no future here... It's just a different situation when it involves regular members who may be affected negatively. And while we've definitely made some bad decisions in this regard, we really do collectively want, and try, to minimize that as much as possible... and I think that's where the divide exists between the perspectives here.
