I can relate to this in a sense. I do believe that in order to enforce a rule that says people shouldn't be rude, you should try not to be rude yourself. I've been a smartass when I was a mod, but there were times I regretted it and overall, I like to think it was something I tried to keep at a minimum.

I've written a lot of smartassery only to wipe my messages and start over with more moderated replies
