I dont think it was exactly the same, no. Didnt Ryan feature in episode 1 of the US version, whereas Ricky the temp only joined about halfway through the UK version? I cant actually remember clearly, and didnt enjoy series 1 of the US version enough to want to re watch it all and find out lol.
Wikipedia's episode guide of series 1 seems to bear no resemblance to the UK version at all in fact;
