Two days late, but hey, I like this piece of information:

Basically, Alcohol and (many, if not all) drugs are processed by your body in the Liver, as some of you will probably know for alcohol at least :P When you take antibiotics, and drink, it a) means that the two mix in your liver, which is bad news for some but not all drugs (some react with alcohol and cause problems, others do nothing really) and b) means that your liver is working double time trying to deal with both the alcohol and the drugs in your system, which is why you get the effect of being Trolleyed after one or two, as Keyliegh described.

Usually, doctors tend to be careful when it comes to that sort of thing though, in the sense that were it reallly dangerous for you to take alcohol with the drugs, you would have heard it five times before getting your hands on the prescription. You're probably safe drinking one or two, just so long as you don't go out and get totally smashed, but that's very much a personal, semi-informed opinion!
