I started listening to classical music when I was young and most other people of my age probably didn't listen to it either. But there was a good reason I did it. Around that time the chart music was getting weaker and I was finding less in popular music to interest me. Classical music is a good way to get into good music quickly, alot of the best stuff has already been sorted out over time.
Nowadays perhaps it's similar in that to find music that they like some people have to dig quite deep beyond the charts or hyped stuff. Until recently I thought the last decade was mainly just crap music, it was only when I started looking through all the stuff beneath the hype that I saw there was actually lesser known music that could appeal to me. Most probably don't have the time or inclination to do that and hear crap on the radio, or listen to some highly recommended 'cool' stuff find they don't like it and just give up.
Now if somebody doesn't like classical music or don't really want to give it a try then that's ok. They can listen to whatever they want. But others can listen too whatever they want to, including classical music.
