Well... I'm not sure if the musicians themselves are "conscientiously obscure" because I can't read minds or whether or not they want to be. As for us... we're just exploring a sub-genre of folk. Being a huge fan of the Velvet Underground, I thought that avant/experimental folk would be a decent genre to look into. But whatever floats your boat.
