I was thinking about putting together a Swans comp too, but seeing as you beat me to it why don't you go ahead and make it? I wait eagerly in anticipation. |

I made this mix for a mate's show on uni radio and, rather than leave it at that, I may as well post it here. As with other mixes I've done here, you'll find some youtube videos linked to their respective songs in the tracklisting...

"On the third day after the King's death the sun turns black, and the King is reborn a God." due to winters cold edge and in celebration of new material from Comus here is my in-depth introduction to Apocalyptic Folk.....although i feel that a few of these bands would just consider themselves "neofolk" the term Apocalyptic Folk was first coined by David Tibet (Current 93) sometime in the mid 80s and apparently was originally meant to describe the type of people (folk) he was working with rather than a form of music (folk)...either way it was very fitting for both the style, mood, and people contributing..... the music tends to lean towards both Aleister Crowley inspired lyrics of Thelemic magic and Gnosticism....as well as ideas of "Revolt Against the Modern World" and a return to a more "traditional" way of life Quote:
2. Belborn - Realm Of Light 3. Der Brandtaucher - Rome 4. Icarus - Changes 5. The Green Man - Baptism By Sea 6. Novemthree - A Mother's Wish 7. Of The Wand & Of The Moon - Lost In The Emptiness 8. Neither/Neither World - All That Is Dying 15. Ostara - The Only Solace 16. Michael Cashmore - Sleep England 17. Strength Through Joy - The Force Of Truth And Lies 18. October Falls - Marras II 19. One of my favourite artists, the Decemberists are a band who are as much about storytelling as they are about melody, and as much about humour as they are about melancholy. I found it difficult to summarize their 10 years and 5 albums in 60 minutes, due to both track length and quality of material, but feel I've competently assembled 12 tracks to do them justice. Castaways and Cutouts (2002) 1. Leslie Anne Levine 2. Odalisque Her Majesty the Decemberists (2003) 3. Red Right Ankle 4. The Bachelor and the Bride Picaresque (2005) 5. The Sporting Life 6. 16 Military Wives 7. The Engine Driver The Crane Wife (2006) 8. The Island: Come and See/The Landlord's Daughter/You'll Not Feel the Drowning 9. Sons & Daughters Always the Bridesmaid Single Series (2008) 10. Record Year The Hazards of Love (2009) 11. The Rake's Song 12. The Hazards of Love 4 (The Drowned) |
