This is a great album, I'll gladly give it another listen this week.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but after reading a bit of the backstory, I'm really interested. Can't wait to give it a spin.

I just gave it a preliminary listen, and I'll need to spin it a couple more times before I can post an intelligent opinion. Anyone else heard it yet?

I'm really enjoying this - "Raise Up High" especially is pretty incredible. Great pick, Mondo. I'd give it 8/10. (I don't have a ton of time to be lengthier, and I'm super sorry about that.)

I hadn't heard this album for a year or more and it's not something I've heard very often to begin with. I had to listen to it again just to remember what it sounded like and I have to say I wound up liking it a bit less than I thought I did the last time I heard it.
The first track sounds like a homage to The Mothers of Invention circa 1967/68 complete with the type of sound effects that Frank Zappa was so fond of at the time. Not a bad thing but not interesting enough to add anything to the formula. The songs on the rest of the album sound quite different and quite different from each other, giving me the impression the band just decided to throw a bit of everything into it. There are even a couple of songs with a bit of a soul vibe to them (the band actually started out as a soul group) that just sound too out of place here. Variety can be interesting and the music is well played but it just seems like an unfocused effort overall. I think I would like this a lot more if the free jazz/psych rock feel had a bit more cohesion to it as far as the songs fitting together. An album I will probably listen to again at some point even though I found it somewhat disappointing. I give it a 6/10 |

I still haven't listened to it. Started to the other but realized I wasn't in the mood for it.
