A Musical Endeavor
Welcome everybody. You've all seen this journal numerous times, and it's back again of course. This is just my main journal for reviewing any and all albums given to me. Under these paragraphs there will be a spoiler with all the albums I've reviewed. I'm also taking recommendations for albums to review of course, but the catch is that it can only be 2 albums per person. So pick wisely because I won't be taking anymore until after Christmas. Also, no member albums please. Thanks. Last edited by Thelonious Monkey; 12-12-2016 at 11:10 AM. |

Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree I felt like listening to some pop punk, I don't know why. But here we are. I've never listened to Fall Out Boy before, although I do remember hearing the song Centuries on the radio. I remember it being alright, although at the time I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to radio music, because I thought it sucked. But that's all changed I suppose. Anyway, into the track-by-track review. Kicking off with Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued, cameras flashing to begin with, and then we get right into those pop punk riffs. Oh my god, this is so nostalgic, I used to listen to Pop Punk, and listening to this is just nostalgic as **** for me. The vocals are what you expect, whiny and full of angst, but damn this **** is anthemic as ****. I can tell this would be a genre I could totally absorb myself back into. Next is Of All the Gin Joints in All the World. By the way, the **** are these song titles? They are so long. This one is fun, but now I'm starting to realize that this is going to be hard to review. Dance, Dance is one of the singles off the album, which starts off slow and quickly speeds up into a pretty fast banger. Patrick Stump is the vocalist, and no complaints so far, he sings how I'd expect and it works for me. This song is pretty epic to be fair. Next song is also a single, Sugar, We're Goin Down, so I get the feeling I should recognize this, but clearly not. But I love it so far. Dude, so ****ing catchy, it's perfect. And the vocalist sounds perfect. Next is Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner, grooves straight out of the gate. Wouldn't have it any other way, just a straight banger. I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) next, and this starts out a little slower than the previous songs, a nice little ballad pop punk song. Love this one man, I'm definitely gonna go check out those old albums I used to listen to. Right into 7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen), which is another earworm/banger/tune/, and oh **** this ending riff is badass as ****. So we move onto Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year, and halfway through, this one seems cool. Breaks out in epic riffing and shouting. Oh ****, there's some screaming in here. Cool, I guess? I mean it was only like 1 second. Next up, Champagne for My Real Friends, Real Pain for My Sham Friends, and holy **** that chorus is awesome. Love this guy's melodic voice. This one is straight up epic banger/10. All these songs follow the same formula, but it never gets old when they're coming up with these genius tunes. I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me is next, and this one transitions perfectly from the last track, and this one is pretty sweet so far. Some shouted vocals in the chorus, which is pretty sweet and it works so damn perfectly. And oh my god, some sweet angst as **** screaming at the end, brilliant man. That song was a hella standout. Moving on to A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More "Touch Me", a more restrained and radio ready single, but still damn catchy and fun as ****. Not much else to say, but it does its stuff pretty damn well. Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) is next, and I wonder how terrible this is going to look in the review with all these extremely long titles. This song rocks along nicely, halfway through we get an epic moment with Patrick's vocals, building up to a ****ing sweet scream. A standout for sure. And holy **** the spoken outro is sweet. Segueing right into XO, and some sugary vocal melody which explodes into a fast speedy pop punk song 101. This does not bore me at all though. I'm a bit annoyed it's over, because it's felt so short. I love this one, building up into an epic banger of even epic-er proportions. Dude, that was great. Been a while since I listened to any pop punk, but this was a great first reintroduction to it. I might just go listen to more Fall Out Boy now. And I'm certainly gonna go check out more classic pop punk albums for sure, so stay tuned if you're interested. 1. "Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued" 2. "Of All the Gin Joints in All the World" 3. "Dance, Dance" 4. "Sugar, We're Goin Down" 5.
