Vestron Vulture - Quarter-Life Crisis (2016) Quick Thoughts: 2016 is the year for great hip-hop and evidently great synthwave / electronic. This is a solid album. Rating: Link: https://vestronvulture.bandcamp.com/...er-life-crisis |

So, here's the deal. I've made an AOTY list time and time again, and still I'm not happy with it. There are literally so many albums that I want to put on the list, and for the sake of not making them too long, I've decided to do it by genre. So I know i've made several lists, but don't blame me, blame the fact that we've had so many solid releases this year.
Anyway, here is yet another attempt at an official AOTY list, by genre: Synthwave: FM-84 - Atlas Arcade High - Kingdom Perturbator - The Uncanny Valley Wojciech Golczewski - Reality Check Trevor Something - Soulless Computer Boy and the Eternal Render Vestron Vulture - Quarter-Life Crisis Hip-Hop: Tied for #1 spot: Travis Scott - Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight The Weeknd - Starboy Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3 Kanye West - The Life of Pablo Injury Reserve - Floss Denzel Curry - Imperial Kid Cudi - Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin' Gucci Mane - WOPTOBER Elzhi - Lead Poison Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered. Everything Else Deserving Of Mention For 2016 (And Potential AOTY): Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool pg.lost - Versus The Pineapple Thief - Your Wilderness Katatonia - The Fall of Hearts Killswitch Engage - Incarnate Opeth - Sorceress Salad Trouble - Rigged Election Son Of Abbot - Stuck Between The Parallels of Man & Monster Daydream Society - The Blinding (This will be the list that I will constantly edit if need be. But this is where I'm at right now) |

Didn't you love the new Devin Townsend album or what? Can't remember whether you loved or felt indifferent towards it.

2017 Don't worry, I'm not going to close a journal and open a new one just because it's 2017, but what I am going to do is create a new "go after" plan for this year for this journal. I've tried many times to make a journal that I'm happy with in this section of the forum, and I really feel I've found a happy medium between this journal and my hip-hop journal. For once, I'm happy with how my music journal has turned out. Anyway, there have been some endeavors in this journals that I took on earlier in the year that I still want to finish: Grateful Dead: The Ultimate Plunge I haven't completely forgotten about this although it may seem that way. This will be coming back as I really feel it's worth my time to do so. Member Recommendations: I'm opening up the floodgates and I'll be allowing people to recommend albums that I should listen to. I won't promise I'll get to them right away as I still want to focus on my own endeavors, but don't be shy if you want me to listen to something. Review Format: This is something I've started doing not only in this journal, but in my hip-hop journal. I really like to talk about albums I truly love upon first listen or after several, but I never really feel that multiple paragraphs are a good way to express that. Some people can do that, I however do not have the mental capacity to do so. So, I'm going to keep to the new format that I've taken a liking to. Not saying it's original, just something I feel is better fit for my attention span. Quote:
Fresh New OP: As far as my OP goes, I will be taking all of what is in there now, and quoting it in one big quote bubble and labeling it as "2016 Endeavors etc". This will allow me to rehash the OP for the new year and will give people a basic look as to what is in this journal. So keep an eye open for that. Themed Months: Themed months will still be happening, but I've got nothing in mind at the moment. I know I didn't finish the Steven Wilson month and I don't see that being finished in the foreseeable future, so just give up on that dream. However, I do have plans, they just won't happen soon. Hiatus: At some point this year, probably near the end of January and onward, I will be taking an extended hiatus if things go the way I'm expecting them to. I'm not disclosing the reason as I really don't feel it's any of your business. However, if you don't see me around, there's a reason for it. Anyway, again...look out for a fresh new OP and I hope everyone had a great new year celebration. Let's make this a year to remember. |
