Default Hello, I'm Hank the Drifter.

Whats up everyone? I've decided to join this forum in order to converse with others with similar taste in music, and maybe completely different taste in order to find new music and get a better understand of music I don't care for. Now I will give a bit of information about myself and some bands I like.

I'm a 16 year old Male. My username comes from a mix between Hank Williams and Luke the Drifter, combing the two names for one obviously. I'm extremely open minded when it comes to music, and enjoy listening to literally anything and everything. I can't pick a favorite genre, but I can name the ones I spend the most time listening to; Metal (Mainly Doom Metal and its sub-genres, Death Metal, Black Metal, and Traditional Heavy Metal.) Country (Classics, Outlaw, and plenty of the Alt-Country scene today is swell in my opinion, and the new Dark Country also.), Indie, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Hip Hop/Rap (Old school stuff mostly, but new bands carrying the old school also give me my fix), Punk (Mostly hardcore, but some Crust and Post-Punk also.). Psychedelic stuff is always a fun listen in my opinion, and I love musicians/bands that are really experimental.

Here are some bands if you're still reading my autobiography, haha.

Pantagram, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Candlemass, Apostle of Solitude, Briton Rites, Cirith Ungol, Witchfinder General, Pagan Altar, Dawn of Winter, Eyehategod, Grief, Buzzoven, Noothgrush, Leechmilk, Sleep, Earth, The Gates of Slumber, Melvins, Grand Magus, Hour of 13, Reverend Bizarre, Drudkh, Burzum, Fen, Gris, Ludicra, Autopsy, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Possessed, Repulsion. This is a somewhat generic list, but it will do for now. Hank Williams, Wayne Hanc*ck Drive-By Truckers, Corb Lund, Flying Burrito Brothers/Gram Parsons, The Interpestuals, Just Townes Earle, Scott H. Biram, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Red Foley, Those Poor Bastards, The Pine Box Boys, .357 String Band, [early] Waylon Jennings, Fats Domino, Neil Young, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Woody Guthrie, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Big L, MF Doom, Deltron 3030, Cunninlynguists, Wu Tang [+Most Solo acts.], Gravediggaz, Company Flow, Y-Society, Jake One, The Roots, Lootpack, Mobb Deep, Organized Konfusion, Panacea, Scarface, Black Flag, Wire, Flipper, Wipers, Circle Jerks, Adolescents, Middle Class, Reagan Youth, Teen Idles, Minutemen, Urinals, Descendants[MG2C], The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Dungen, Elvis Costello, The Vaselines, Frank Zappa, Brian Eno, Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones, Lustmord, Fang, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Nirvana, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nick Cave, Throbbing Gristle, Big Black (+Related Projects.)

Sorry this drawn out introduction, but its my first official day of summer vacation and its raining, so I've got time to waste, lol. If there is anything I didn't cover you're wondering about in this thread just let me know. Because, I feel like I left out a lot of really key bands in there.

"We'll see you next time if the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise" heh.

Holy shit you know The Interpestuals? I haven't met anyone who knew about them other than the people whom found them through my friend Chris. Sorry it's just kind of a shock, someone with tastes outside the indie rock crowd to come in through the swinging doors of this forum. I would have recommended checking out my Gothic Country thread but it appears as though you're already well familiarized with everything I know in that area... Wow...

Please stay.

^Yeah, I found out about them recently through last.fm, but ever since they have been getting some serious rotation for me. Sucks they only made one album and from my knowledge [Which isn't much] basically vanished off the face of the earth. I will certainly drop by the thread and take a look. I would like to listen to more Gothic Country stuff, but honestly, as much good stuff as there is in the genre, there is twice as many bad bands. I guess this is true for all genres, sadly. Most genres are a little more accessible when it comes to buying or downloading the music than the Gothic Country, which makes it twice as time consuming to get into new better bands. I hope I am making some sense here.

No you totally are, especially when it comes to the part about their being two times as many bad bands as good bands. I use to do a Gothic Country blog for awhile but after I came to that realization it became hard to update it because I didn't really feel like I was exposing people to the good music of the genre, just the music. I'll send you the URL for my Mediafire Country folder which has about 60-65 albums uploaded to it so you can dissect it at your own pace and see who you like and who you dislike. As far as The Interpestuals are concerned, yes they pretty much did just fall of the face of the Earth. My friend Chris discovered them when he was living in Calgary, Alberta Canada, where the band originated from and was recommended them from someone in the area. When Chris passed the band onto me I inquired as to the fate of the band, he speculated that because their only album ReviveR failed to sell or really gain an audience the band just quietly dissolved.

I totally understand. I don't feel like I'm good enough with words and explaining music and such to have a blog. Thanks for the link dude, very nice. Yeah sucks that most great acts like that just die off because they get zero attention, and bands that don't deserved to be listened to twice become huge hits. Sad thing.

Well hello there Hank!

I have to say I am really impressed by your taste in music, your horizons are quite broad there, sir, especially for your age. And I was extremely giddy to see your avatar and your fondness for outlaw and classic country. And that you even knew their was a difference between the two! You may like to take a swing by the classic country albums thread in the album review section of the forum and see what you think. Feel welcome to add. I did a Hank review, but I doubt I did him justice. Just scratched the surface really. And you like Marty Robbins! How about that. 'Out in the west Texas town of El Paso I fell in love with a Mexican girl...'

Anyway, welcome to the boards, I'm really excited to see what you have to say.

Heh, yeah I have taste all over the place. Its nearly impossible to find anyone my age with similar taste to mine other which sucks, but that's alright with me I'm pretty much the most anti-social person I know, haha. Yup ol' Hank is my favorite for sure. I will take a look at that thread for sure, always interested in reading more about real country music. I'm not good with reviews, but maybe if I find time early next week I could put something together. I have a hard time talking about Hank fairly being I'm such a fanboy, haha. Robbin's Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs is a must have for pretty much everyone, heh.

Thanks man and glad to see someone is! haha. I'm enjoying reading everyone else's opinions and seeing their insight on music, normally proves interesting.

You are going to have to fill me in Luke the Drifter, I don't think I've ever heard of him/them before. Sounds like something right up my alley though. Are they classic or more in the gothic genre?

Also, I noticed you didn't have Willie Nelson in your list up there, and was just curious why. I'm a big fan and if you like Waylon Jennings I think you'd really like his partner in crime Willie too. If you would like any suggestions or downloads just give me a hollar and I would be glad to assist you.

Luke the Drifter was a name Hank Williams adopted in the later part of his account [Around 50' so last two years.] to release his religious songs. He made the change because there was a fear that Jukebox operators (Because that is supposedly where a lot of Williams records were sold.) would be scared to play these songs, because most of them didn't contain singing, but rather recitations. So in order to keep the two different styles separately he released records under both names.

I like Nelson just slipped my mine while posting. I would like to know though, do you know much about Merle Haggard? I for some reason never ventured into him other than the occasional song. Thanks in advanced, HtD.

Thanks for the welcomes.
