I guess I'll go with decent. Musically I would describe it as a folky tinged cross between Vampire Weekend and The Beatles. I think I probably would have rated it higher if I felt some sort of connection emotionally with this album but it didn't really grab me on that level. I felt sometimes that it was trying too hard to be deliberately quirky but didn't really break any new ground on that front so it kind of didn't work for me on that level either. Overall perhaps a light musical snack? I'd say definitely worth a listen despite my lack of enthusiasm. If I were in a different head space I would have enjoyed it more and I intend to give it a few more plays.

Yea... I voted mediocre. Nothing really wowed me, and it was a bit too poppy for my taste. Overall, I guess it was just a typical indie pop/indie folk album. Don't take my word for it though, I'm very biased when it comes to this kind of music.

This album has become almost a staple in my own collection and I'm pretty familiar with it as a result. It is folksy as well as having good blues and rock influences. There are no notable high or low points track wise as the whole album is solid from front to back. The band tends to make extensive use of harmony, piano, steady drumming, and good bass.
This album didn't really appeal to me on the first couple listens for whatever reason - but after listening to various tracks a handful of times I eventually became quite attached to the whole album. The same goes for Shame, Shame their other album which I can listen to with Fate almost interchangeably. I rated it excellent because it's an important album for me. |
