Title: The Blackening Artiste: Machine Head Genre: Heavy Metal Track 1 (Hate) Great almost acoustic start then a powerful surge on the guitar; this song is ten minutes long. I've never heard any Machine Head before so this will be a test. Not mad abotu the vocals, very Tom Araya, but the music's good. Yeah but meh, I'm not that impressed as the song comes to an end. Fairly basic. What's so special about this? Track 2 (Hate) More meh; didn't really even make an impression on me Track 3 (Love) The first one I've liked, mostly for the superb guitar solo and the pretty decent melody. Kind of good how it slows down near the end, fitting the title pretty well, given the angry vocal (then again, I think he's always angry?) Track 4 (Love) This is good too, a fine melody and mostly recognisable vocal Track 5 (Hate) It's not that I hate it per se, but it's just like listening to a Slayer album: can't really say there's much I'd want to hear again. All loud, raspy vocals and aggression. Meh. Hold on a minute: is this two tracks? One stopped very clearly, and then another starts but I'm still looking at the same track on Spotify? Yeah, same track Track 6 (Love) Well the guitar and bass opening is very good. Oh **** yeah! This is far better than anything I've heard on the album up to now. Sweet. Track 7 (Hate) Nah, it's okay but there's nothing special about it. Way too long as well. Track 8 (Love) Mind you, this one's longer! But it starts off brilliantly; high hopes for this. Yeah this is pretty sweet. End result: It started off badly but improved pretty well over the course of its run. A decent album, sure, but I can't see anything to justify YD's claim to it being the best metal album ever. Still, that's his opinion, I just don't share it. Not a bad album, but hasn't changed my world or anything. I also think this is the first album on which I've had so even an opinion, slightly more Love than Hate but it came close. Most others I either Loved or Hated outright; this one divided my opinion almost down the middle. So, Love or Hate? It just edges over as it's fifty percent on each side till it gets to the last track, and the inclusion on the special edition of my alltime favourite Maiden song pushes it over the finish line, so it gets a very tentative Love. Chances of a full review: 5/10

Interesting! The tracks I knew you'd like turned out that way (Now I Lay Thee Down, Halo, A Farewell to Arms) but the tracks I wasn't sure on turned out the opposite. Funny how it became an exact 50/50 split, but hey I'll take it :P

There's no guarantee I will be posting any, but if I do they'll be in my journal. That's why I say "chances". If I like an album (or hate it) enough then I may decide to do a full review. There is, however, no way to know when that would be. It's not a promise, merely an indication that maybe I think enough of the album to look at it in more depth. At some point.

Title: Spiderland Artiste: Slint Genre: Post rock Track 1 (Love) Great guitar sound and I rather like the spoken vocal; reminds me of Waits (shut up) on “Shore leave”. Track 2 (Love) Nice bassline, a little more restrained and downbeat but still good Track 3 (Love) Back to the spoken vocal, kind of ominous guitar Track 4 (Love) This is very downbeat, laidback. Well, for most of it. Like this a lot. Slow percussion is cool. Like the way the tension builds up too. Track 5 (Love) This is just gorgeous: bleak, desolate, melancholy instrumental. Love it. Track 6 (Love) Yeah, this one is great too. End result: This is an album I have nothing whatsoever bad to say about. Truly exceptional. So, Love or Hate? Duh! Love of course. Chances of a full review: 9/10

Oh, and may I just say a big "****-you" to Pet_Sounds, for choosing an album with twenty-****ing-two tracks, one of which is EIGHTEEN poxy minutes long! Things will slow down a little now, thanks to him! ****.
Seriously people: I'm not asking for albums of six tracks like Slint, but the smaller the albums are the quicker I can get through them, so try not to choose any double ones or anything with too many tracks. In the event that I end up getting a lot of these type I may decide to push them to the back of the queue, review on a basis of smallest to biggest, or just assign a particular day to review the larger albums, as I'm anxious to keep this going and not get bogged down with monster albums. Thanks. And again, **** you Pet_Sounds!
