Title: Music Has the Right to Children Artiste: Boards of Canada Genre: Electronic, Ambient Familiarity: I've heard, and was not impressed by, Tomorrow's Harvest Recommended by: TechnicLePanther Expectations: It had better be a whole lot better than the other album: that really bored the hell out of me, and given the respect these guys get here, I had expected much more. This is their debut however, so maybe it'll be different. Side note: Why does TLP insist on choosing albums with a million tracks every goddamn time?? 1. Wildlife analysis: Okay, nice ambient opening, quite short 2. An eagle in your mind: Slightly more upbeat, bit more in it, some very sparse vocals, not bad but hasn't convinced me yet. Not crazy about the scratching. 3. The colour of the fire: Nice vibraphone, the usage of children's voices is uber-annoying. Yeah, I really hated that. The colour of the fire is red. 4. Telephasic workshop: This one's alright. Sort of a mix of ambient and some samply/electronica stuff. 5. Triangles and rhombuses: Short, nice relaxed ambient instrumental. Goes a little weird towards the end. 6. Sixtyten: Some cool percussion and some odd samples. Meh. It's okay I guess. 7. Turquoise hexagon sun: Is this Fender Rhodes? Whatever, it's a lovely smooth luxuriant start to the track, which then moves along in a slow, I guess trip-hop way? 8. Kaini Industries: Too short to make any impression 9. Bcomua: Nice little ambient instrumental 10.Roygbiv: Got a kind of progressive rock feel to it, with the squealy keyboard and the sort of loping pace. The one-word vocal sample is again very annoying though. 11. Rue the whirl: Repetitive but kind of entrancing. Like this. I guess you'd class it as trip-hop, would you? 12. Aquarius: Okay, this sounds like it has some potential. Again quite sort of proggy-like, slow beat, warbly synth, nice guitar riffs, very raw. Oh, crap! More ****ty voice samples. Jesus! I know it's called Music Has the Right to Children, but does it have to have so many ****ing samples of kids in it?? Grrr! Gone from Green to White. If that **** says “Orange!” one more ****ing time.... Alright, **** you! It's Red now! Happy you prick? 13. Olson: Pleasant but very short. 14. Pete standing alone: This is good. Uses vocal samples too but they're not annoying. Nice kind of rattling feel to the music. Sweeping synth and ticking percussion. 15. Smokes quantity: Don't like the kind of whiny, screechy nature of this too much. 16. Open the light: This is much nicer. Light piano, guitar and a sort of flutey sound to it. 17. One very important thought: Political crap. Meh. End result: Better than the other album I listened to. Some very good tracks but some really annoying ones. I'm still not sure it would make me a fan of the band, though I might be prepared to listen to something else in the future. Jury's still out, I guess. So, Love or Hate? Overall though, best I can manage is quite a weak Like.

I normally wouldn't but in this case, I implore you to listen to:
Happy Cycling It was only released on the US release, but today it's considered an essential part of the album. I agree that "One Very Important Thought" doesn't feel interesting enough to be the album closer. Just give it a listen, it's one of their best songs period. Especially the last couple of minutes.

Not checking to see if reqs are still being taken. Too tired.
One of the most unique virtuoso rock albums. Nothing else like it.

I'd just like to point out that Boards of Canada spell "color" without the "u", so you need to change that.

And here's the tracklist from the band's own site. Notice anything?
