Title: Pamyu Pamyu Revolution
Artiste: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
Genre: J-Pop
Familiarity: Zero

1. Pamyu Pamyu revolution: Typically Oriental intro then some nice synths and it bounces along in a pleasant enough way; no real vocals and a short track.
2. Tsukematsukeru: This one has vocals, those high-pitched teenager ones that make me think of Hello Kitty. Tune's not bad, bit sugary but very catchy I must admit.
3. Pon pon pon: Yes, again very catchy, uptempo and cheerful
4. Minna no uta: Squidgy, bassy synth kind of like a fast tuba, then something like violin. Bouncing along but I'm not as into this as the last track. Far too long.
5. Kyary ANAN: Bit frenetic, almost rockabilly at times. It's really hard not to imagine a line of white cartoon cats dancing while listening to this though. Ooh! Mariachi trumpet! Just gets weirder.
6. Candy candy: Sounds like this might be a ballad --- no, no way. Here comes the bouncy exuberance again. Pretty cool hook in the chorus, must admit. Like the piano.
7. Drinker: Another decent pop song; has a very seventies digital piano. Catchy, again.
8. Onedary 44 C: This somehow has a kind of prog rock feel to it, (thinking the likes of It Bites) with some pretty crazy sax too
9. Suki sugite kireso: More disco about this one. Good beat. I hear her throwing in some English from time to time, but I assume it's mostly in Japanese?
10. Giri giri safe: Bouncy, uptempo, yadda yadda yadda
11. Oyasumi: The sort of carnival theme here is pretty cool. Yeah, I like this.
12. Chan chaka chan chan: Chaka Khan? Lordy! Very 80s new-wave here with the synths! Very fast and upbeat. I'm sure I heard her sing “I don't want to go home”. Cool little closer. Yeah, she definitely sang “See you again, see you next time”. You just might...

End result: I can't really find fault with this album on one level. It's fun, it's engaging and it's endearing too, but it's not the kind of music I would listen to of my own choice. Still, I doubt I'd be leaping to the radio to shut it off if it came on, so though I wouldn't consider myself a fan of this kind of music, it's certainly not bad.

So, Love or Hate? I think in general this deserves a Love.

Ole Lou really hurt your feelings with that album, didn't he?

Yes because so much of his total discography is so utterly brilliant, it tarnishes his body of work

Is that really how you see it? I usually just listen to albums on their own merit, not in the context of other albums by that artist, unless it's a new release and I have high expectations or something like that. Captain Beefheart released Unconditionally Guaranteed, a heaping stew of ****e that he fed to orphans for kicks, but he also released Trout Mask Replica, the greatest album ever made. The existence of the former has zero effect on my opinion of Beefheart.
