I'm getting hyped for your view of this album. Hopefully, it won't be another Meh.
I know you're not the biggest industrial fan, but this album was recorded in Germany, so what do you expect. Also, I hope that warning wasn't written after you reviewed the album, because that would shed a lot of light on how the review turned out.

It's got more to do with the fact that you felt the need to say it. You really don't. Only a complete moron would have a go at you if they disagree with your personal opinion about an album, legend or not.

Thanks Goof!
And now... Title: The Idiot Artiste: Iggy Pop Genre: Art Rock Familiarity: I know the odd Iggy track, but nothing like most people here know him. 1. Sister Midnight: I've read up on this album and I see that it's not the wild, crazy punk rock of The Stooges, which pleases me no end of course. Likened to and linked to Bowie's “Berlin trilogy”, particularly “Low”, it seems to offer a more restrained Iggy, with ambient and electronic influences. Sounds like it could be interesting. Okay, you can hear the Bowie influence in this right away. Quite funky, soul infused. Great bass, courtesy of Bowie's regular bass player, George Murray. Not mad about it but I don't hate it. It's catchy but very repetitive. 2. Night clubbing: Slower, kind of sleazy feel to it with some good guitar. Again the bass is great. Lot of blues in it too. The vocal is mostly spoken though. 3. Funtime: Like the overall feel of this. Good mix of electronic and rock guitar in it. The ending is awful though. 4. Baby: Is Bowie singing on this one? Or does Iggy just sound very like him? Pretty decent song too. Nothing really doing it for me yet though. Nice synth work. 5. China girl: Well now I know this of course, but the Bowie version is far better. Given that, it's not a bad version, and of the tracks here definitely my favourite so far. 6. Dum dum boys: Harder rock on this one, reminds me in places of “Keychain” by Rory Gallagher. Bit too long though. 7. Tiny girls: Oh **** this is fantastic! That sax! The vocal delivery, the melody: I love everything about this. Why isn't the rest of the album like this? And of course, it's one of the shortest tracks on it! 8. Mass production: Well I really like this too. Love the way it builds up, the heavy percussion and the kind of whistling keyboard. Weird, discordant synth there at the end. Love the vocal. End result: Nowhere near as bad as I had originally expected, though as I mentioned I read up on the album and had my fears (!) assuaged a little. Got much better towards the end, and while I liked it it's not the sort of album I feel I'd be returning to any time soon, nor seeking out any more of Iggy's music. So, Love or Hate? On balance though it has to be a Love.

Title: Sacred White Noise Artiste: Thantifaxath Genre: Black Metal Familiarity: Zero Note: Interestingly, it seems all three members of this band want to remain anonymous. Apparently this includes live sessions: how they do this is beyond me, unless they wear disguises? 1. The bright white nothing at the end of the tunnel: Great mad start on what sounds like keys then the guitars come in, drums crash in like falling boulders and finally there's the voice I love so well Have to say, this music is great but it sounds more like progressive or symphonic metal most of the time. Really impressive. 2. Where I end and the hemlock begins: The opening of this song is ****ing fantastic! Really dramatic and portentous. Excellent atmospheric guitar and it slows down almost as if this was on an ipod with one percent power left and draining (I;d say like a record at 16rpm but only us oldies would get that reference!) then it speeds up again. Very aggressive, very powerful, very very good. 3. Gasping in darkness: Yeah, love everything about this so far. No complaints. 4. Eternally falling: See, again the opening here is pure progressive metal/rock, or at least ambient. Me likee. Instrumental. And talk about conjuring up the feeling in the title! A perfect job, absolutely perfect. Favourite so far. 5. Panic becomes despair: As if he feels left out from not singing, the unknown vocalist is back with the first note of this song and it's a fast, powerful, aggressive assault with certainly an edge of panic in it. Now, I'm listening to it at the moment so I don't know, but if it slows down near the end I'll be very impressed as this will be a musical representation of panic becoming despair, a fast-beating heart slowing down in acceptance of its fate. We're about halfway through now so... well look at that! It's slowing right down! GMTA people, GMTA! Well, maybe not quite. I would have preferred a really slow, doomy, dark ending but it seems to be slower but still pretty uptempo for the ... yeah but then right at the end it finishes on a long-drawn-out guitar chord, so you know, maybe. Anyway great track. 6. Lost in static between worlds:Now that definitely sounds like cello to me. This track is eleven minutes long; somehow I don't think it's going to seem like that. These guys really know how to build up an atmosphere. Even when the vocals come in it's at the perfect time. Excellent closer. End result: Really enjoyed that. Would I call it Black Metal? Well, vocalwise and with the power of the guitars, yes, but I'd really refer to it more as something like Progressive Black Metal or Symphonic Black Metal. So, Love or Hate? An absolute Love. It would be a True Love, but I can't get past those vocals. I can stand them, sure, but they're not what I enjoy listening to. Everything else here is gold though.

Cheers, glad that you liked that one I was a little worried that you wouldn't.
Edit: Also apparently they are considered a mix between death metal and black metal instead of just one or the other. |
