Record Store Day 2012
Anyone going tomorrow? I'm going for the first time this year. Hoping to snag copies of Alexisonfire's Math Sheet Demos, the Mastodon splits, The Flaming Lips collab album and the Animal Collective 12". Hopefully the store I go to doesn't have an insane lineup.

Might see if the only record store in town is having a sale on DVD's. I can't even remember the last time they actually had a CD I wanted. It's kind of sad really, like visiting a hospice housing a terminally ill family member, knowing the end is coming but not quite fast enough so you have to watch them suffer. Felt like that on Tuesday when I went to the only comic store in town. Oh well, I'm sure people were sad when their favourite lead-based paint store closed down too.

Don't think anyone celebrates a record store day here. There is a record shop a 3 minutes walk away from here, but I've already gotten all the records I wanted from there and he's slow to get new stuff.

In your guy's experience, how bad are the lineups before the store opens? I'm planning on arriving just before the store opens tomorrow.
The store I'm going to is in Kitchener, Ontario, so it's not going to be as busy as stores in say, Toronto.

I'm hoping that's the case with this particular store. Kitchener's not known for its culture and love of the arts the way Toronto is, and the last time I was in this record store it was pretty dead.

Yeah I'm one of the handful regulars that go to the shop's events, it's a bit sad, really. A town with a population of well over 150,000 and only 100 people even "like" them on Facebook. Everyone shops online, it's tragic. Just before Christmas the store had to have a huge sale just so they could make rent. =\
But I will support them forever. Plus I've got an in the with owner and he gives me sweet deals. |
