Celebrity Touch does have some great build up moments and closing track Deprived is damn epic but this is not the Riverside I fell in love with a few years ago. The production is uninspiring too. They were due to play at a festival I attended last year in the Czech Republic but they cancelled due to working on the new album but the wait really wasn't worth it. I do like the album but **** Pop orientated. The band were actually moving evermore away from their heavy Marillion sound on each release and I was welcoming it but this a very disappointing album in terms of evolution.

It really comes down to different strokes for different folks, but as long as Mariusz Duda continues singing and writing, then Riverside will always sound like themselves as far as my two ears are concerned. I'm a tad puzzled by the Marillion comparison though -- the bands sound nothing alike (past and present both). That is, unless Hogarth and co. suddenly got a whole lot heavier and lugged in a Hammond organ I suppose....

I really don't feel that emotional attachment on this album which (in my eyes) made Riverside far more than the sum of their parts. I am also ridiculously pissed off that I couldn't see them last year as a major reason for me outlaying a lot of cash was to see them live so sour grapes do indeed taste sour!

There was a lot of hype surrounding this album and I like Destroyer's other stuff so I thought listening to Kaputt was long overdue. Kaputt is quite possibly the worst thing ever. Its smooth, Kenny G "jazzy", and bubblegum sweet and soft, some disco is here.

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB - SPECTER AT THE FEAST (2013) Anyone else remember when these were good? A retro, bass-heavy, loud, neo-psychedelic part of the garage-rock revival in the early 00's. That would be before they were throwing out grey, dull, lifeless drones of records that wouldnt even qualify as elevator music. This album doesn't do anything wrong but it definitely doesn't do anything right. Boring. |

Lately I've been disappointed by the following albums:
Best Coast-The Only Place (Abandoned their charming lofi sounds for trite pop) Sleigh Bells-Reign Of Terror (Too similar to their first album, novelty weared off) Bleached-Ride your heart (Doesn't match the brilliance of their early EPs) The Strokes-Comedown Machine (Half baked 80's nostalgia album) |

Earth - Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version (1993) I would ask somebody to explain this to me but I don't really think there's much to explain. I like The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull but this is just garbage. Before you ask, yes I turned up the volume so loud my ears itched, yes I tried to focus on all the different frequencies, yes I tried to immerse myself in the atmosphere and feel of the album. The thing is I could only do so for so long, before becoming disinterested and generally frustrated even before the end of the first track. This album reminds me of a Friday in school before a mid-term break and the last half-hour long track 'Like Gold and Faceted' is like the last class of the day, it just drags on and on like there's no end. During the last track all I could think about was putting on a Tegan and Sara album. And when the album was over it felt like such a relief, like that feeling of the class bell ringing and finally being free for the mid-term. At least bands like Boris and even Sunn O))) to some extent add some sort of dynamic and variety to their music to keep you immersed. This album is just an exercise in being as extremely monotonous, repetitive and boring as possible.
