I just gave Wavves a listen and they're not as terrible as everyone would have me believe, might just investigate further.

I hate hipster bands because their very designation as such suggests a sort of no-win situation for someone discovering them after they have been given that lable. No-win in terms of mutual "respect" for music tastes. But hipsters are by and large hypocritical to the core much like any group of self-supposed elitists. Why should I feel guilty if I discover Times New Viking or The Pains of Being Pure at Heart slightly behind the bloggers of the hipster community? Bah!

Well since they are the greatest band of all time thats pretty understandable.

Tbf to Pitchfork actually they do review a variety of things that you'd be surprised they would, i saw a glowing review of Phantom Limb by Pig Destroyer on there a while back and i'd hardly describe them as a 'hipster band' at all, so i wouldn't be surprised if they'd reviewed more hardcore than simply The Chemistry Of Common Life.

Independent bands do catch alot of undeserved flack around here, most of the bands I listen to would be considered indie or have been 'hyped' by pitchfork at one point or another, but whatever, I like what I like.

Animal Collective is one of my favorite bands and I own a fixed gear bike, **** off.

Radiohead
Flaming Lips
Bjork
Joy Division
Talking Heads
Brian Eno
The Cure
The Smiths
Tom Waits
Can
Wire
Pixies
Sonic Youth
My Bloody Valentine
Dinosaur Jr
Fugazi
Wilco
Sigur Ros
Godspeed You! Black Emperor!
Pavement
Yo La Tengo
Aphex Twin
PJ Harvey
Neutral Milk Hotel

I know some hipsters who are so damn hardcore they hate most or all of the artists above.

Good music and an audience of more than 10 people is for arena rock corporate sellouts goddammit.
