NumberNineDream sent me Morgen - s/t (1969)

I already knew NumberNine was really into psychedelic rock so I had a sneaking suspicion I'd receive an album along those lines and I was not disappointed being a psychedelic rock fan myself. I've never heard Morgen before so it was nice to hear a new artist in the genre.

Morgen's s/t album is solid from beginning to end. I enjoyed every track and that's a rare experience for me while listening to music. The album is really heavy on the guitar which is always a plus for me especially when the guitarist is obviously a master of his craft.

That pretty much sums it up for me. Morgen's s/t album wasn't a type of music I've never heard before or been a fan of so it wasn't anything new. What it was though was a really good psychedelic rock album a notch above the rest so I definitely recommend it to anyone that hasn't heard it before.

Thanks NumberNine

I think that's a great idea. It'll also make checking out interesting albums a bit easier for us lazy folk.

Nope. All you have to do is state your interest here which, of course, you just did, so cheers for that!

Looks like someone's implying the first one wasn't any good

Sounds a bit too much like hard work to me I'll keep track from now on though, and see if I can go back to maybe the turn of the year and think of a way to put it into the thread.

Either way, here are the traders again...

Let's get some more on board eh. The timespan you're looking at with this next trade is officially two weeks, but I'll probably geta bit lazy and make it three instead.

Anyway, who else wants in? If it takes me bumping this every five minutes 'til someone signs up to shut me up, so be it

No, I liked Ocean's Eleven. Just didn't like the others.

Well, that's a relief. Consider your credibility saved

I didn't mean everything we've traded since the thread's inception...just from now.

Well, I'll see if I can record the trades from New Year's onward, give future additions to the list something to build on. Shouldn't take me too long. As I say, I'll see if I can figure out a way to get the list into this thread as well.

Dieselboy sent me: Rob Dougan's Furious Angels

He had said that he didn't have anything really "depressing" so he sent this. I didn't know what to expect cause I never heard of him before but I knew he liked Electronica so I was excited. Then I started listening to it. A mix of vocals, classical, and Electronica.. had I known such an album existed I would've had it a long, LONG time ago. Some songs are more on the Electronica/Vocal side of things like Nothing at All and some on the more Classical side like Will You Follow Me? The majority though are a summation of the two. To me, it sounds like something I'd listen to at the end of the world. That's good and bad. Good, because it sounds like the end of the world and is very commanding and powerful but at the same time it's quite melodramatic. There's something about the melodramaticism that separates it from those annoying bands like Epica. Overall, something I thoroughly enjoy and definitely will be listening to quite a bit! 8+/10

duga sent me Ser Jorge - Cru

I had no idea what to expect when I heard "portguese singer". I'm a finicky mofo when it comes to music and because of my OCD, I tend to either stay inside my box or go WAY outside of it. One note in a melody can make it or break it. I get very clear images in my head from certain notes and chord progression; a beach at daytime or nighttime, cloudy or sunny, what I'm looking at, where I am, why, etc. This whole CD just feels so lighthearted and makes me feel like I'm on vacation and I'm standing with my sunglasses on, sweating like a mofo, wondering if I should go to the beach or see if Kristy is done at the spa and then get something to eat. Then there's songs like Fiore de la Citta that sounds like the soundtrack for the morning where you're awake earlier than you should but, for once, got enough sleep. You're in a good mood and no one's going to screw that up. It's not very often that I get so much positive imagery from one CD. This is PERFECT summer music. THANK YOU! 8+/10

Note: Furious Angels made me think of a Rainy Sunday in front of an old church I use to go to called St. Matthews. It also used to be our movie day.. and it also makes me think of muted colors and cinnamon buns.

Glad you liked the album abdullah... I had exactly the same impression you had btw. I'm finding the album you sent me to my liking, still haven't givin' it the serious spin I need to review it. Maybe in the couple of days to come.

I think I can help in the list. I already went through all the pages a couple of times, I don't have a problem to go over them once again.

Yeah, I was a bit nervous sending it but I really feel more people need to listen to Seu Jorge. He is incredibly talented, and as you said, the CD is just one big happy trip. I play it on sunny days all the time. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well!

Now to review yours:

Library Tapes - A Summer Beneath the Trees

I've received a few recommendations from CanwllCorfe before as well as checking them out in his posts around MB, so I trusted his judgment so far. Overall, this album was very enjoyable. It is very slow and melodic experimental music. I wouldn't go so far as to call it ambient, but it definitely creates and atmosphere and draws you in. Library Tapes is pretty much one guy from Sweden named David Wenngren.

I would love to comment on individual songs, but there really isn't a standout. It all kind of blends together into one giant music experience. One big complaint I have for the album is I really wish there was a bit more variation in tempo. I listened to the album a couple times, each time spacing out and getting lost in my own thoughts. Though it was enjoyable, it's not something I think I will turn to all the time. It is good for reading or when you are doing something that requires minimal distraction.

I'd give it a 7/10 based on the talent this guy has and how he succeeds in accomplishing what he set out to do...and that is create atmosphere and imagery in your mind through nothing but instrumentation.

Thanks, CanwllCorfe!

Yes, this is me. I tend to listen to music that doesn't require active listening because my mind moves too fast to really pay attention to what I'm listening to. That's why a lot of the music I listen to is atmospheric and creates feelings because things like "words" won't usually register. I'm glad you liked it!
