[QUOTE=LoathsomePete;726967]The Beginner's Guide To Ween

you did it, excellent! I too worship at the church of Boognish and savour all that is brown... so fittingly my favourite album is 'Pure Guava' followed by 'Chocolate and Cheese' and the utterly wasted early home-recorded stuff. They are masterful as pop songwriters and musicians too. Definitely one of those groups that inhabit their own special dimension... although check out R.Stevie Moore.

The Beginner's Guide to.. Epic Trance

Trance all started in the early 90s when artists such as Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Baby, and Dance 2 Trance all began making hypnotic synth driven music. By today's standards most of it would be considered "Goa" but at the time there weren't any types.. there was just Trance. As it became more and more popular the sound got more refined and the songs became more energetic and more accessible. The original hypnotic, or "trance-inducing" sound was more or less out the window. In this commercial era pretty much all trance was either Epic, Progressive, or Hard. This dominated the trance sound from pretty much 1998 to 2004. In 2004 many artists stopped being afraid to experiment and started creating their own sound. Armin van Buuren started producing much more Progressive stuff, Ferry Corsten practically made a new genre called Electro trance, Tiesto combined a lot of House influence to his songs and made a tune called Traffic.. one of the first tech trance songs ever, and Paul Oakenfold left trance to produce music that was more in demand : House. Nowadays Epic Trance is much less common because it is no longer the commercial electronic genre of choice. Although it is still being produced.

The Beginning:
Age of Love - Age of Love (Jam & Spoon's Watch Out for Stella Club Remix) [1992]
Dance 2 Trance - We Came in Peace [1990]
The Visions of Shiva - How Much Can You Take [1993]

The Early Commercial:

Nalin & Kane - Beachball [1997]
Libra presents Taylor - Anomaly (Granny's Epicure Remix) [1997]
Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Three N' One Remix) [1997]

Commercial:
Armin - Communication [1999]
Slyder - Neo (The One) [2001]
Lange - Follow Me (Lange's Club Mix) [2000]
The Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia (Fly Away) [Paul van Dyk Dub] [2000]

The Late Commercial:
Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Gabriel & Dresden's Sweeping Strings Mix) [2003]
DJ Tiesto - Just Be [2004]
Roland & Wright - Hybrid (Ian Betts Remix) [2006]
Above & Beyond vs. Andy Moor - Air for Life [2005]

Nowadays:
DJ Shah feat. Adrina Thorpe - Back to You (Aly & Fila Remix) [2008]
Oceanlab - On a Good Day (Daniel Kandi Remix) [2009]
Robert Nickson - Never Again (Nitrous Oxide Remix) [2008]

The Beginner's Guide to Gift of Gab

Gift of Gab is quite possibly one of the most talented and versatile MC's to ever be discovered in the Hip Hop scene. With a rapid fire delivery mixed with internal rhymes, allusions, metaphors, and tongue twisters it's pretty easy to see why he's been able to rise to the level of fame that he has reached. Universally respected amongst the Underground he is truly a shining example of the amazing level of skill that comes with Hip Hop. He was the first MC I ever really got into with the song "Alphabet Aerobics", rapping his way through the alphabet, going faster and faster. I was in awe after I heard it and immediately went out looking for everything I could find. I first started off with the three Blackalicious albums where he is the MC while Chief Xcel takes over beat making. Blackalicious is his most well known project, however he has released one solo record entitled 4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up. In 2008 he joined a hip hop "supergroup" with Lateef the Truth Speaker of Latyrx called The Mighty Underdogs that released the debut album Droppin' Sciene Fiction. I've taken what I think to be his best work and created one mix that will hopefully create some new fans and open up previously reserved people to Hip Hop music like what happened to me.

As always band names are bolded
Albums are always Italicized
Song Titles are "quoted"

01. "World of Vibrations" - Blackalicious - The Craft
02. "Rat Race" - Gift of Bad - 4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up
03. "Clockwork" - Blackalicious - A2G EP
04. "Rhythm Sticks" - Blackalicous - The Craft
05. "So Sad" - The Mighty Underdogs - Droppin' Science Fiction
06. "First In Flight" - Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow
07. "Deception" - Blackalicious - Nia
08. "Ill Vacation (ft. Lyrics Born)" - The Mighty Underdogs - Droppin' Science Fiction
09. "Writz" - Gift of Gab - 4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up
10. "Alphabet Aerobics" - Blackalicous - A2G EP
11. "My Pen and Pad" - Blackalicious - The Craft
12. "Ego Trip (ft. Nikki Giovanni)" - Blackalicious - Nia
13. "Escape (ft. Mr. Lif & Akrobatik)" - The Mighty Underdrogs - Dropping Science Fiction
14. "Side To Side" - Blackalicious - The Craft
15. "Ride On" - Gift of Gab - 4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up
16. "Purest Love" - Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow

Well I included albums so if you let me know what songs struck a chord with you I can see about uploading an album or at least finding you a link.

Kudos on the guide to Ween, they are great! I know you shouldn't add too much of Mollusk songs, but Buckingham Green is a great one too. Mollusk is a great album, definitely their most accessible (and best!)

hilarious

Yeah "Buckingham Green" is great, on my list of fav. Ween songs (and it's my favorite album as well).

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Would anyone be interested in a Minor Threat guide? I know you can get their discography in total but I know whenever I'm trying to get into a new band I don't like having 30 songs thrown at me.

But they're short.

Intro To 21st Century South Africa

This is a mix of songs that I have made that show some of the various musical scenes we have in SA ranging all over the country and into various genres. There are a mix of some major bands/artists and some more lesser known bands just to keep everything interesting.

If you do care to download and listen, please do leave your comments about the music if you wish. It would be nice to hear some opinions from non-South Africans. I will try to include the year and genre that they belong to but some I know are not accurate already, so just use them as a guideline.

Tracklisting:

1. 7th Son - These Days (2006) Reggae/Dub
2. 16th Stitch - Anyone (2007) Alternative Rock/Metal
3. Dj Mujava - Township Funk (2007) House/Elctronica
4. Fokofpolisiekar - Prioriteseer (2005) Alternative/Punk Rock
5. Fuzigish - Bombs Away (2006) Ska Punk
6. Goldfish - Fort Knox (2008) Electronica/Jazz
7. Gonzo Republic - Jeniffer (2008) Blues Rock
8. Lark - Bionic Mind (2006) Electronica
9. Mandoza - Nkalakatha (2002) Kwaito
10. Misled - Not Worth Your Weight In Spit (2006) Hard Rock
11. Parlotones - Colourful (2005) Alternative
12. Prime Circle - She Always Gets What She Wants (2008) Rock
13. Rail - Procrastination/Delussion (2006) Progressive
14. The Slashdogs - Psycho Killer On Parole (2006) Blues/Rock
15. Underbelly - Analyse Aim (2007) Nu-Metal
16. Unit R - Clap (2006) Dance/Electronica

On a personal note, my favourite tracks are: 4, 5, 7, 13 and 16.
Enjoy!

Intro To Sa.rar
