Default Spotify: worth signing up?

Seems Spotify is now available in Ireland. I've tried it on the free but the ads are drivin me mad. Thinking of signing up, and the 4.99 deal looks good. Unlimited is better but a fiver more, and there's nothing there that I really need as additional benefits.

Just wondering, is it worth splurging on? I did find an album by Stars Of Heaven there, which I've been able to find nowhere else on the internet, so I'm intrigued.

Be interested in the views of anyone who has had experience (good or bad) with this service.

Cheers
TH

I absolutely love it.

I've been frustrated the past couple years with the way music has been laid out for me. In high school, building my music collection was a very important part of my life. With everything going digital, that part of my life pretty much stopped. I could listen to way more, but I felt music lost a personal touch for me. I got really sick of just downloading an ass ton of albums and adding them to my ever expanding digital library.

Enter Spotify. It's easier than dedicating hours out of my life downloading tons of albums as it has most of the music I want. When I find something I really like, I take note of it and eventually buy it on vinyl. That way I'm also only buying albums I really like.

So, yeah...I fully support Spotify. Granted, a lot of artists will argue they don't see **** for a few Spotify plays, but with a little tweaking of the system I think this is the way the future of music should be. Maybe to encourage buying physical albums artists could start including more interactive or creative packaging or extras or something.

I have spotify premium, I'd say it's worth it. It does everything it's supposed to do and a bit more. I'm still shocked how many very unpoular underground bands are on it.

As far as it being unfair to individual artists; the payout to artists is slim, sure, but it's beneficial to labels.

Worth getting. Premium streams at a higher quality, but I think Unlimited (one I have) is best value for money.

It's been available here since October. It's definitely well worth it, it's great having access to so much music through one application. I seem to be downloading less as a result as well.

There are however quite a lot of albums or even artists absent from it. There's been quite a few times where an album I wanted to listen to wasn't available.

It's also easy to share playlists with other people, which is something we could start doing here on MB.

This is a thread I considered making at one point, but totally forgot about it.

I was pondering this very thing here today. Glad you brought it up! It would be so very nice to be able to take my playlists with me on my phone.

I am gonna start making one now. I'll post it in here when it's done (probably not tonight) and start a thread if enough people are interested.

I'm interested...I'll let you make it since I don't really have an idea for a playlist at the moment, but if I can make a suggestion so that it doesn't become a cluster**** of playlists, let's do a "MB featured playlist of the week" or something like that. I'd be more than willing to participate in something like that and the ease of sharing Spotify playlists means we can get an even better of everyone's music tastes around here.

I think theBig3 thought of something similar, but it hasn't taken off yet...so let's get it going!

It's definitely worth it, Trollheart. I have Premium and it allows me to stream music on my iPhone (with regular you only can listen to the spotify radio), and it's helped me quite a bit with space issues on my phone. Plus it takes care of those annoying ads.

That sounds interesting, I'm up for it.
