Default AIR - Moon Safari

AIR -Moon Safari (1998)
Songs:10-Length:00:44-Size:60mg

La Femme d'Argent (7:11) I would say this track falls in line with Modular Mix, Les Professionnels, and Casanova 70. Elevator music. Sexy Boy (4:59) is ryhtmic and beautiful. This track doesn't bore me at all, I could listen to it over and over. There's just something that makes it whole. All I Need (4:28) and Kelly Watch the Stars (3:45) are both great tracks by AIR. Pretty vocals and a beautiful chorus with a beat and instraments that entertain. Makes me feel like I'm in space. Talisman (4:17) is a good track, it's melodic and relaxing with a nice beat and steller sound effects. You Make It Easy (4:02) is not doing it for me, it's a good track, but for some reason I'm just not feeling it. It reminds me of some genre of music I don't like very much. Ce Matin-La (3:39) is a nice, relaxing track. Suprisingly not boring, too. New Star in the Sky (Chanson Pour Solal) (5:41) is a more melow track. The piano and the kids in the background are a nice touch. I think this is for sure one of their better songs, ranking with Sexy Boy and All I Need. Le Voyage de Penelope (3:11) has a good beat and some great instramental. I enjoyed it a lot.
My Album Overview: Moon Safari, in my oppinion, far surpased Premiers Symptomes. Not only because of great tracks like Sexy Boy, but also because overall it was entirely less boring. There was also a more solid sense of atmosphere that I picked-up, giving it extra points.

you've very obviously never heard a live version of 'la femme d'argent' if you're calling it elevator music.

even on the record it serves as an overview of what to expect for the album. mellow, relaxed, atmospheric music that almost touches on other established genres but never really tying itself to any specific style.

I agree with mr dave. La Femme D'argent was fantastic live when I caught Air and elevator music is the last thing I would call that song.

Schizotypic you also called Premiers Symptomes elevator music as well and I am not too sure I agree with that either. Maybe my idea of what elevator music is, is different that yours. The vast majority of tracks are on Premiers Symptomes are IMO melodic synth pop instrumentals that are extremely catchy. An essential album for Air fans who also have Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie.

Well, I love Talkie Walkie and The Virgin Suicides soundtrack very much. IMO Premiers Symptomes just doesn't compare. What do you think of their remix albums like Everybody Hertz or AIRteries?

I have not heard those remix albums as I have stuck to the official releases.

Have a read of this > thread. We discussed Air extensively.

TW was a let down and sounded like a rehash. it's like 4ZZZ said, we've discussed the group quite a bit and it seems that most people who were already listening to the group when TW came out felt the same way. it's a matter of perspective.

as for the remixes. i remember liking the adrian sherwood remix of 'how does it make you feel' but that was it. the rest of 'everybody hertz' was crap, haven't heard airteries (it doesn't come up as an official release). i don't find their music lends itself well to being remixed. sure it's 'electronic' but it's created by musicians who play instruments rather than those who sit behind a laptop to create. instead of dj remixes they should be getting rock bands to cover their songs.

staying on topic here. i really think moon safari is the band's high watermark in terms of their initial style (new age psychedelic instrumentals). they've since moved onto a more minimal, ambient electro pop style that doesn't really do much for me or my friends who were digging on them back in the day.

You Make It Easy is one of my favourite tracks on the album. Good review all-round anyway - a top album this, and totally essential.

Yeah, AIR is good. I think Sexy Boy has a sound to it that would be much more prone to airplay then anything else Iv'e heard from them. I really haven't been listening to them much since I made this thread, but I think there's probably some subtle stuff in their music that is more worthy of appreciation then anything Sexy Boy could offer. That's completely a guess though, honestly their not like my favorite band. By the way, it's important to note that this review is biased because I was attempting to listen to album after album after album of them all in one sitting, which was dumb, and it probably took away from the music for me.
