Yep, dirt bike, on my birthday too back in July, which is actually pretty hilarious considering the last time I was in the hospital was on Christmas Day. Was riding a long and windy trail about 10 km out of cellular coverage, alone, took a corner around a large mud puddle, failed to notice a fist sized rock in the middle of the berm, kicked out of my front tire and laid the bike down right in the puddle. It wasn't a very hard fall but I landed directly on an older minor knee wound that had only recently finished healing, split it open much worse than it was before but didn't break anything. Got up, dusted myself off, looked down through the hole in my jeans and was pleasantly surprised to see a 1'' x 3'' wide opening in my knee, revealing what I thought was my knee cap (but later found out it was
just my patellar tendon).
No pain whatsoever, with the boost of adrenaline and shock it felt like a minor bruise. Luckily I had my first aid kit with me so I was able to clean it up a bit and dress it well enough to stop the bleeding before it got to my head. Picked up my bike, hopped on, and rode it one legged back down the trail and into cellular coverage. Immediately called a friend and told him to meet me at my place (only ~15 minutes away) so that I could drop my bike off somewhere safe before being carted away to the emergency room (last time I was in ER my truck was stolen from the parking lot, but that's another story). 5 hours, 5 bottles of saline, 1 tetanus shot, a shot of antibiotics, and I was on my way. By 3 AM in the morning however, all of the anesthetic and adrenaline had drifted away, and I was in a whole new world of pain.
Kept me off the bike for 2 weeks before I was able to bend my leg enough to ride without ripping out the stitches. But I'm back in the saddle now, it healed up really well and left a sick scar.
